Year 10 Parks students are holding a Halloween cake sale on 31st October to raise money for our House Charity, Mind. In addition, there will be raffle for staff to win a Halloween themed cake made by a parent who is generously donating it.
Update (2nd November): Year 10 raised £56.48 from the raffle and the cake sale. Thank you to everyone who purchased cakes and bought a raffle ticket, and congratulations to lucky winner Mr Cross!
Parks House is named after Rosa Parks (1913 – 2005), an icon of the civil rights movement in the USA. Rosa was arrested and fined $10 in December 1955 for civil disobedience in violating Alabama segregation laws after she refused to give up her seat on a bus to a white passenger. Her act of defiance and the subsequent Montgomery bus boycott became important symbols of the civil rights movement. Rosa lost her job in a local department store, and received death threats for years, but campaigned tirelessly for racial equality. She collaborated with civil rights leaders, including Martin Luther King Jr, and became an international symbol of resistance to racial segregation.
Parks House was formed in 2013, and the name was chosen by a student vote.
