Building Learning Capacity in the Lower School
Pupils in the Lower School are involved in an exciting new project that has been written to develop the overall learning capacity as they follow their journey throughout their time at WGS and beyond. The project is based on the work of Professor Carol Dweck and her research into Growth Mindset. The project is designed to enable pupils to focus on five skill areas which form ‘their brain’:
Each pupil has been given a Brain Pack, which is a series of cards that focus in turn on each of these areas. We have written questions that they pupils will engage with at the end of each of their lessons.
Teaching staff will use these resources in a variety of ways. The overall aim for this project is support our girls in improving their independence and perseverance to enable them to take ownership of their learning.
Pupils in Lower School have been provided with a Learning Journal that they will complete with their Form Tutors to consider their learning journey for the week. They will identify where the successes were, and where they need to focus on.
It is important that pupils understand they do not know everything straightaway, and that mistakes can and will happen in their learning. However, it is what they learn from these mistakes that will develop them for the future.
