6th Form vs Staff Football Match

On Wednesday 15th May, our highly driven and talented PGW PE students organised a Sixth Form Vs Staff football fixture in aid of Cancer Research.

With both adrenalin and tensions running high, the Staff team (with a line-up which included the PE department and special guest appearances from: Mr. Goee, Miss. Bush, Mr. Ball, Mr. Martin, Mr. Winter, Mr. Rodrigo, Mr. Holden, Mr. Bunting and Mr. Adeniyan) took to the pitch to face-off against our talented PGW football players.

Our very own Mrs. Hill donned her black referee kit and, as soon as the whistle was blown to signal the start of the match, it was apparent to see that the Staff team were determined to not be embarrassed by our young guns.

It didn’t take long for the Sixth Form team to break the 0-0 stalemate, but their 1-0 lead was short-lived after Mr. Allen volleyed home an equaliser for the Staff team, however a rapid response came from Owen to push the Sixth Form team back into pole position!

The match saw Mr. Allen and Mr. Poppy carry the staff team through to a 4-3 victory. Mr. Winter was described by some sixth formers as being ‘not too bad, actually’ and Mr. Geary as being ‘pretty decent,’ high praise, indeed!

The Staff team left the pitch in high spirits and everybody was in agreement that it was a wonderfully enjoyable, well organised event, and all in aid of such a worthy cause! Well done to all Sixth Form students who: organised the event; publicised the event; took part in the match, and supported on the side-lines – all of our Skills for Life principles were certainly on show, here!
