Teachers VS Sixth Form Students

poster

On 23rd February, we took a group of sixth form students to Maidstone Leisure Centre for an Apprenticeship Fair organised by Tracey Crouch MP. Over 50 businesses and companies were in attendance, as well as The Army, Civil Service and the NHS. Our students visited the stalls to chat to the representatives about various apprenticeship opportunities, but mainly to pick up all the freebies that are probably still cluttering up their bedroom floors! They left with bags crammed with brochures and leaflets, pens, torches, key rings and lollipops, and there was a positive buzz on the journey home. We’re hoping that the event will be running again next year, when we plan to take our entire sixth form from both schools.

Following a 6 week training programme 20 pupils from Greenacre Academy can now confidently run 2km, thanks to Beginners 2 Runners!

At the start of the academic year, Greenacre Academy have been working in partnership with Beginners 2 Runners to trial a new Junior programme in schools.

The programme is to engage pupils twice a week, to build up their confidence and fitness to then run 2km without stopping. At the start of the programme 20 pupils committed to the 6 week programme, each week decreasing there walking time so they run for a longer distance.

The B2R Junior programme encourages team work, increases self esteem and self confidence and increases physical fitness.

This week was the last week of the B2R Juniors programme, and the pressure was on for the pupils to complete their 2km run for the first time without stopping to graduate as a 2km runner. Every pupil that started the programme, completed the 2km run, a 100% success rate, a huge confidence boost for pupils and a massive sense of pride and achievement as a team.

The club will now be continuing once a week for the rest of the academic year on a Monday after school. Warren Wood will hopefully see their pupils graduate tonight!
