History at Chantry helps children to gain knowledge and understanding of Britain’s past and that of the wider world. It involves understanding the process of change, the complexity of people’s lives, the diversity of societies and relationships between different groups, as well as their own identity and society today. History allows children to develop the following key skills: ask perceptive questions, think critically, evaluate evidence and examine arguments. Our history curriculum allows children to develop their wider knowledge and aims to generate an interest in and enthusiasm for the subject of History. Purposeful and natural links to British values and RECIPE are threaded through the curriculum. At Chantry, many of our History topics link to the work covered in Science, Literacy, Geography and Art, so pupils will continue their History learning across the curriculum. There is also a link to current affairs – the news of today will become the History of tomorrow. We aim to inspire a thirst for historical knowledge with an exciting range of external visits and visiting speakers (Covid restrictions have limited this in 2020-2021)
